. . . I think maybe she wouldn't be on anyone's side. [It's nice to think about, at least. It's a long shot, but what if maybe--] What if in death she's finally free from having to pick sides? I wouldn't want to force her to choose if she doesn't want to.
[Anthy regards Maya for a moment, then offers her a soft, mostly genuine smile.]
At least if it was you contacting her, you would try to honor her wishes. [Keyword being try, but--] Can you really do that?
..... That's kind of sad. [That she'd only be free in death, that is. Still, maybe a part of Maya can sympathize. There are a lot of things in her life that she wishes she got a choice about, including being here, on this mission. Maybe it's the same for Anthy] But, I guess, in death, she really is free... I hope her spirit is at rest.
[If not, maybe she can do something about that. Or, she hopes, anyway] W-Well--- [A bit of a hesitation, because she does not have a lot of confidence in her skills, despite her last two channelings having been successful]
[She rambles a little nervously:] I've been training a lot, so I, I mean, she's been gone a long time, so it might not work, but... I want to give it a shot!
[She wants to be of use, somehow, and this is the only way she knows]
[Anthy looks at Maya, her expression thoughtful but beyond that inscrutable, still as the surface of a windless lake. It's hard to trust those who have faith in themselves, but uncertainty, self-doubt, those are things Anthy knows well. Yes, she knows what it feels like to feel unmoored, lost in limbo; she doubts that Maya knows her level of pain, but she's got no question that Maya does feel out of place in some way. It's easy to see.]
[After a long moment of consideration, she shifts a little so she's leaning closer, their shoulders not quite touching, but almost. Then she slips her hand into Maya's and squeezes, ever so gently.]
[It's a little unnerving, the way Anthy looks at her. So many of the people she knows are open books, but Anthy's expressions are so hard to read, or like she's looking right through Maya, and Maya's first instinct is to think she's disappointed -- which causes her to deflate even further]
[But it's possible Maya has more in common with Anthy than she'd thought. From the way her eyes widen at the hand-holding, from the full out "deer in headlights" look Anthy's words earn her, it's almost like Maya doesn't know how to process real kindness and faith directed at her. Funny, for someone who makes it a point to be optimistic and encourage everyone around her]
[That's what Anthy says instead of laughing at Maya, although it's tempting. It'd be like kicking a puppy. And she does like Maya, somehow, improbably. She doesn't want to hurt her. At least not right now. Maybe later.]
I believe that you'll try until there's nothing left to try, and then . . . keep trying, probably. You have a big heart.
[Which can cause problems in its own right, but. That's not really Anthy's problem.]
I guess so. [She does try a lot, and she's very stubborn, (and she knows it) so Anthy's assessment is pretty spot-on. Maya doesn't particularly think she has a big heart, but that's Maya]
W-Well..... no, you're really nice.
[(Sitcom laugh track)]
[It's more like it's hard to believe anyone has faith in her, because aside from one or two exceptions (one of which is dead, oops), people never really have. And she doesn't, evidently, judging by this ridiculous reaction she's had]
Lots of sayings are silly, wherever they come from.
[It could be from anywhere. It doesn't matter to her, and maybe she's even forgotten. Regardless, it's not something she actually believes. Sometimes the best thing to say is total bullshit.]
I don't know that I'm a master of anything. [Like that line, for example. She's only half trying to sell it.] Maybe you could teach me a skill, so I'll be of use around here.
[ that's a play on words that he can appreciate. there aren't many that wanted to be painted as a dirty good-for-nothing, even if Loki had it down to an art. ]
Well, I can't doubt your initiative, but in the nature of being no-good and low-down, I don't do anything for nothing.

[ there's a look of amusement that crosses his expression into something of a smile. ]
Ah, that is a terrible idea. No one wants to learn anything of worth from me, 'less you'd like to be a no-good dirty thief. That I can advise on.

[She smiles, winningly. And really why not, a skill is a skill.]
If I can't be good, I might as well be no good.

[And her expression shifts, the playful child left behind in favor of something ancient and calculating.]
Do you have a price in mind? Bartering is very time-consuming.

You came to the greenhouse, where people are working to gather ingredients that will hopefully heal your teammates, in order to get apology flowers?
[Just to be clear here . . . just to be clear . . . Come clean, Connor . . .]
